Haskel Ivan Benefield, 81, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 in Emerson at his home.

He was born on March 16, 1931 in Emerson to Joe Day and Ola May (Wynn) Benefield.

Haskel was a US Air Force retiree serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. At his retirement, he had obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a Mason where he served as a Past Master of Temple Lodge FM No. 448 in Bossier City, La. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Emerson. He loved being outdoors especially when he and Glenda were fishing together at their pond. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all.  

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Glenda Benefield of Emerson; three daughters, Donna Benefield of Shreveport, La., Kathy Williams of Kansas City, Mo., Sandra Stevens and husband, Chris, of Emerson; one sister, Ida Maude Holly; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; and one sister.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28 at First Baptist Church in Emerson with Bro. Dale Fish officiating. Interment will follow in New Ramah Cemetery in Haynesville under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Magnolia.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Pallbearers will be Joe Ray Benefield, Mike Benefield, Brian Stevens, Roy Bristow, Warner Tribbey and Orvin Feliciano.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Emerson or charity of your choice.
