Jerry Dan Kooms, 64, of El Dorado, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

He was born Dec. 30, 1947 in El Dorado to James Lewis Kooms Sr. and Jewel Hughes. He was a carpenter and worked for several companies during his career. He loved spending time outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing or just using his skills to build projects for his family and friends. He was also very talented at drawing pictures. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his family. Jerry served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a loving father and inspiration to everyone who watched him courageously battle his wounds.

Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Adri Kooms of El Dorado; Kristy Kooms and boyfriend, Mikey Woorden of Ricon, Ga. and Nikki VanderPoel and husband, Matt of Jackson, Wyo.; two brothers, James Kooms, Jr. and wife, Martha, Oscar Kooms and wife, June; three sisters, Betty Hux and husband, Garry, Pauline Goodwin and husband, Ronnie all of El Dorado, Judy Johnston of Russellville; several nieces; nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doug Inzer officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday prior to service time.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Goodwin, David Goodwin, Clint Slaughter, Kirk McCrary, Bobby Kooms, James Kooms. Honorary Pallbearers will be Monroe Slaughter and James Slaughter.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Burn Unit or Life Touch Hospice of El Dorado.
