The Rev. Earl F. Johnston, 80, of Harrell, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at his home.

He was born Sept. 23, 1932, in Lake Village. He retired from teaching after 30 years in the classroom in 1994 and just recently retired from pastoring after 51 years in the ministry. He also served in the Army as a corporal during Korea. While serving in Korea, he received a Letter of Commendation for his brave acts as a military policeman.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee Johnston and Maude Ora Madera Johnston; and one sister, Audra Lee Word. 

He is survived by his wife, Christine Floy Gilbert Johnston of Harrell; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Elizabeth Johnston of Harrell, and Steven and Susan Johnston of Harrell; one sister, Eugenia Dennis of Harrell; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Union Grove Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Beauford Rash and the Rev. Rickey Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce/Hampton.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
