Wayne Massey, 65, of Strong, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at Baptist Hospital.

He was born June 28, 1947 in Strong. He is the son of the late John Cecil Massey and Eunice Wells Massey. He was a carpenter by trade and a veteran. 

Wayne loved traveling and cooking, especially barbecuing. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time and being involved with his church activities. His favorite pastime was to sit on his porch drinking coffee and watching the stars. But most of all he loved his family who will dearly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, W.A and Ruth Keaster; brothers, J.C (Goober) Massey and Tommy Massey.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lissie Massey; daughters, Theresa (Tess) Wooten (Greg) and Melissa French; son, Johnathan Wayne Massey; grandchildren, Blake Wooten, Logan French and Kaitlyn French; and a great-grandchild, Chanler Rodgers; brothers, Alvin Massey (Helen), Earnest Ray Massey (Gina); sisters, Shirley Crawford, Martha Jane Wallace and Diane Fairris (James).

Church services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Danny Malone and Blake Wooten officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Keaster, Timmy Massey, Chance Massey, Jamie Fairris, Bill Webb and Corey Massey. Burial will be at Green Grove Chapel cemetery under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church.
