Edward Dempsey, 90, of Magnolia, passed away on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at his home in Magnolia.
He was born on Oct. 26, 1921 in Stamps to the late Joe and Ruby (Dean) Dempsey. He was a retired crane operator for Alumax where he worked for over thirty years. He was a volunteer at the Haunted House and Columbia County Fairgrounds.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel Dempsey; two brothers, Charles and Harold Dempsey; and a sister, Betty Henry.
Edward is survived by his son, Bill Dempsey and wife, Amy of Waldo; daughter, Jo Ann Best of Benton; three grandsons, Jarryd Dempsey and Johnathan Dempsey both of Waldo and Nathan Best of McNeil; three granddaughters, Tiffany Dempsey of Waldo, Kari Reeves and husband Jeremy of Benton and Robyn Huffman and husband Shane of Cabot; and two great-granddaughters, Emily Reeves of Benton and Abigail Huffman of Cabot.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 at Columbia Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Magnolia Hospital Foundation or to the Magnolia Boys and Girls Club.
Pallbearers will be Steve Ferrell, Jarryd Dempsey, Johnathan Demspey, Nathan Best, Jeremy Reeves, Michael Leaks, and Shane Huffman.
