John Walter Townsend, 74, of El Dorado, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at his home.

He was born July 18, 1938, in West Point, Miss., the son of Frank Townsend and Maggie Miller Townsend. He was a retired employee of Milam Construction Co. and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church No. 2.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Edna Townsend.

Survivors include two sons, Timothy Townsend of St. Louis, Mo., and Cornell Townsend of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, the Rev. Frank Townsend Jr. of El Dorado, and Leo Townsend of St. Louis; three sisters, Ceaster Townsend of Little Rock, Cleaster Ridgel of St. Louis, and Bobbie Dorn of Macomb, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Public viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Andrews Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. Felton Burgie officiating.

Burial will be in† Morning Star Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.
