Irene Louise Howard, 71, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, in Mesquite, Texas.

Born March 16, 1941, in Oakland, Calif., she was the daughter of Burton and Grocer Ross Andrews. She was a member of Douglas Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Circle Debra Missionary Society, the couples ministry and the Sunday School teacher for the Golden Girls Class. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and continued her education at Oil Belt Vocational School. She was employed by the El Dorado School District for 38 years before retiring in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Annie Lee Andrews McCathern, Margaret Andrews Brown, Susie Mae Andrews Harper and Mary Lee Andrews; and two brothers, Willie Lee Andrews and Cleotis Andrews.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Howard Jr.; a daughter, Sophia L. Howard Clay, of Mesquite; a son, Ricky Bernard Howard Sr. of Mesquite; three brothers, L.C. Andrews of Homer, La., Jimmy Andrews and Odell Andrews, both of El Dorado; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Public viewing will be from 4 until 6 p.m. today at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. D.L. Hegler officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home of Bernice, La.

The family will be at 1310 Essie.
