A ‘flight’ to the finish: Air race competitors land locally

The Air Race Classic is set to begin in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., on Tuesday. Competitors will end the race in Batavia, Ohio.

Debi Dreyfuss, left, Susan Beall, Carol Bailey, Linda Knowles and Lin Caywood stopped in El Dorado for the night. They landed their planes at Goodwin Field Wednesday afternoon.

Gravel crunched under the tires of the planes as they came to a stop on the tarmac at Goodwin Field right outside of El Dorado.

One after the other, two planes, Nos. 12 and 14, came to a halt in front of the airport, and after a moment, their pilots and passengers began exiting.
