John Conner, of Huttig, passed away Wednesday, June 6 2012.

John was born on Jan. 5, 1926,, in Harrison, to Oscar and Margaret Sims Conner. He was a United States Naval veteran. He spent his entire life working in the woods as a forester. He graduated with a degree in forestry from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He enjoyed being with nature in his leisure time as well, whether hunting, fishing or working in his garden and greenhouse, or just simply sitting at his pond, John enjoyed the outdoors. He was proud to be the recipient of 15 Triple Crown Trophy Awards for deer hunting.

John also loved and served the Lord. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Huttig since the 60s where he taught his Sunday School classes as well. He served on the Huttig School Board for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

John was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donzie Conner; three sons, Mike Conner, Paul Conner and Mark Conner; three daughters, Elaine Bright, Emily Smith and Amy Blevins; a sister, Iva Dean May; a brother, Dr. Arlis Conner, both of Harrison; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Kelly Matthews, Letty Conner, Drew Conner, Tyler Conner, Joshua Bright, Conner Blevins, Caitlon Blevins, Patrick Smith and Kassy Conner; a great-grandchild, Lucas Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Huttig with Dr. Todd Gunter and Robert Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Harper Springs Cemetery under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

 Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School class and the deacons at First Baptist Church Huttig.
