Cherry “Jerry Pumphrey” Sledge, 64, of El Dorado, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his home.

He was born Dec. 31, 1947, in El Dorado, the son of Charlie Moody and Mary Dell Sledge. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the Brotherhood. He was a retired employee of General Motors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and three grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Janit Morris Sledge of El Dorado; three daughters, Donna Buffington of Camden and Ketarah Sledge and Jessyca Sledge of North Little Rock; one brother, Terry Pumphrey of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Charlene Jamerson of El Dorado; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday at St. James Baptist Church with Bishop George Calloway Jr. officiating.

There will be no visitation or viewing at the funeral home or at the service. He was cremated.

The family will meet with friends after the service at St. James Baptist Church’s Village Outreach Facility.
