Inside Outside On The Table

The His-and-Her House (1993-94) made of Chipboard and Mixed Media by Robert J Fakelmann sits on display in the Price and Merkle Galleries of the South Arkansas Art Center, as guest look over other pieces by Fakelmann, Alexis Elizabeth Wreden and Mary Louise Carter. The reception for the artist, hosted by T&T Services, was held Saturday evening in the Price and Merkle Galleries.

Jack Turner Jr admires new works in oil by Melanie Pyron at Backwoods Art and Frame Gallery in downtown El Dorado Saturday evening. Photos from Costa Rica taken by Pyron, inspired the paintings. Pyron is a local artist and the art works are for sale at Backwoods Art and Frame Gallery.

Pitch, Hit, and Run

The El Dorado Jaycee’s hosted the PITCH, HIT, and RUN competition Saturday, at the El Dorado Boys and Girls Club B-League field. Each participant was tested by throwing strikes to a ‘Strike Zone’, hitting a ball off a stationary tee for distance and accuracy, and was timed starting from second base, touching third, then home plate. The winner in the boys 13 and 14 yr old age group was Mitchell Emrich, left photo. The girls 13 and 14 yr old group winner was Alexandra Greer, center photo, and the boys 9 and 10 yr old group winner was Austin Alexander, right photo.

Pinewood Derby

The Grand Prix Pinewood Derby was held Saturday, in the activity center of College Avenue Church of Christ. Cub Scouts of all ages competed against the clock to determined the winner of each group. The Derby is open to all Cub Scouts. The cars are built by the Cub Scouts, with some adult guidance, and cannot be wider than 2-3/4” wide, at least 7” long, and not weigh over 5 ounces.

Congratulations to the University of Arkansas @ Pine Bluff Golden Lions for their first-ever NCAA tournament victory. The team beat Winthrop Tuesday night.

The Golden Lions will face Duke next. More info soon.

The Union County Investment Angels (UCIA) organization is looking for entrepreneurs who have ideas for businesses but no money to make their dreams happen.

The UCIA will link entrepreneurs with 12 local investors who will review their ideas and finance them if they like what they hear.

UAPB basketball team shines

It saddens me, as a Hog fan, that the Razorback basketball team won’t be making an appearance in this year’s NCAA Tournament. It’s probably just as well, though, considering how badly the team played at season’s end.

Look to the Delta now.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions, the 2010 SWAC Tournament Champions, will face Winthrop of the Big South Conference in the opening round game of the Big Dance.

The winner will face *gulp* No. 1-seeded Duke.

Hopefully, the Golden Lions can pull of a win against Winthrop and go on to give the Blue Devils a shock. Being a Pine Bluff native (born there but moved away when I was 6) I still identify with this raspy Delta city, and hope that this basketball team can offer a little bit of hope to the Bluff.

Washington Middle School Spring Carnival

The Washington Middle School PTA sponsored a Spring Carnival Thursday evening at the campus of Washington Middle School. The event featured all sorts of activities for children young and old. Participants had a chance to take a swing at a car with a sledge hammer, while others holla-hooped for prizes, chomped for apples, or had thier hair colored for the occasion.
