Now if they could just learn to read.

Lone Reader, I’ve probably been one of your biggest fans over the years, but with the previous comment obviously I need to rethink that. As a parent of one of the students in the video I take offense to such a stupid blanket statement on your part. I wish I had read a quarter of the books my fourth grader has with the schools Accelerated Reader program since Kindergarten. Dozens of students are recognized each nine weeks for AR Awards. With each book averaging 1/2 to 1 point, my daughter excitedly told me yesterday she had just broken 300 points THIS year. She must take a written test on each book with only a 100% on the test getting the full 1/2 to 1 point+ per book. I won’t insult your intelligence, like you did hers, by asking if you know about how many books that means she has read this school year… AFM

AFM, I clearly wasn’t making that comment about any one student. Or even Yocum students as a whole. It was a comment on the state of education in general.

Just look at the number of El Dorado School system graduates that go on to take the WAGE test. It is horrible the number that I see every week that are reading at an 8th grade or lower level.
