The Arkansas State Auditor’s Office will soon begin auctioning off 20 years worth of unclaimed safe deposit boxes turned over or abandoned to the state, according to a release on the auditor’s website.
As the chances of the owner of a family member reclaiming the property diminish, it’s the hope of Auditor Charlie Daniels that an eBay auction will free up needed space.
Though the property is housed by the Auditor’s Office, it never becomes property of the state and is up for reclamation at any time by the original owner. After the property is sold, the original owner is entitled to the sale proceeds minus applicable fees, with a valid claim.
Each monthly auction will begin on the last Friday and will last 10 days, beginning Jan. 27.
