District 27 elects Pierce, Arkansas rejects medical marijuana

It was close but in the end Rep. Bobby Pierce prevailed in the Senate District 27 race and Arkansans rejected a proposal for the use of medical marijuana, according to unofficial results by the Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office.

Both races were too close to call by the time press time rolled around at 12:30 a.m.

For the Senate District 27 race, the bid was decided by a mere 288 votes that gave Pierce a slight lead over Henry Frisby, of El Dorado. Pierce was only 143 votes above the 50 percent plus one necessitated for an outright win.

In the issue 5 question, voters across the state defeated the proposal 51.46 percent to 48.54 percent. The trend was echoed in Union County to a larger degree where the margin was 53.79 percent to 46.21 percent, according to the Union County Election Commission’s unofficial results.
