This year’s Union County Fair Junior Livestock Show shattered last year’s $73,000 in sales with more than $124,000 raised by 53 members of Union County 4-H and Future Farmers of America who sold their steer, hogs, lambs and goats at auction.
A record-setting 1,360-pound steer sold for $9 per pound over the previous record of $6.60 per pound to John Milam Construction, Apex Redi-Mix Concrete and Draggin’ M Ranch for a total $12,240.
Slightly more than half of the buyers turned the animals back to the children who raised them when the sale was complete.
