Slow and steady go the first two days of early voting in four contested Smackover and Strong school board races, according to a representative of the Union County Clerk’s Office, where early voting is taking place over the next week.
As of 3:30 p.m. today, only 15 people had cast votes for the few contested races — 12 on Tuesday and 3 on Wednesday.
In Smackover, Jerry Wayne Hegwood will face Scott Martin for the Zone 4 position and Vivian “Jamie” Blackwell and Chris Long will be pitted for the Zone 5 seat.
Strong residents have their choice between Cindy C. Smith and Charles T. Dawkins, vying for the Zone 3 seat, and Fredrick Baker and Arthemus Henry, aiming for the Zone 4 position.
The quartet will ultimately be decided on Sept. 18, Election Day, when polls will be open in each respective town from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Until then, early voting will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through Sept. 17.
