Huttig fire investigation turned over to state police

The Arkansas State Police have taken over the investigation into the house fire at Huttig Mayor Tony Cole’s residence, according to Union County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bill Hickman.

Investigators with the UCSO began the investigation shortly after the Huttig Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze in the earning morning hours of June 23. An initial sheriff’s office report indicated the case was being investigated as a possible arson.

The investigation has since been handed over to the state police who are trying to determine if an accelerant was used to start the fire, Hickman said.

Those tests could take some time, he added.

A call to Rolland Ponthieux, the ASP investigator working on the case, hasn’t yet been returned.
