Though El Dorado opted out of its fireworks show this Independence Day in consideration of the Union County burn ban, Parkers Chapel will proceed with its scheduled show at 9 p.m. tonight at the football field.
Union County Judge Mike Loftin said the show will be allowed under very specific circumstances including wetting the field down for hours leading up to the first shoot off and ensuring the volunteer fire department is on site.
He added that El Dorado was offered the same conditions but turned them down.
The burn ban has caused confusion for locals who’ve shied away from fireworks stands just outside city limits worried that they would be breaking the law if they use the combustibles while under the ban.
In the county, however, Loftin said fireworks are allowed under the ban though the individual shooting them off will be responsible for any possible fire damage. Fireworks are never allowed to be shot off within El Dorado limits, per city ordinance.
