An annual tradition begins again this weekend with the 2012 reintroduction of Showdown at Sunset at 6 p.m. on Saturday in downtown El Dorado.
The free event is hosted by Main Street El Dorado and will continue on the last Saturday of June, July and August with a performance of Showdown by the cast of Chicago, the South Arkansas Art Center’s summer production, at 6 p.m. and the reenactment to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Annually, the reenactment portrays the infamous gunfight in downtown El Dorado a the turn of the last century that allegedly sparked between two men who wanted to marry the same woman. Ultimately, three were killed in what became known as the Tucker-Parnell conflict.
Keep in mind, the video (posted on YouTube by Main Street Arkansas) is several years old, but should give a good idea of what the event entails.
