Richard Eli Hart, arrested on Monday in connection with the Friday night deadly shooting of his fiancee, was assigned a $350,000 sheriff’s bond today in Union County District Court.
Shackled at the ankles, Hart told Judge George Van Hook that he’d had difficulty in reaching his family since his arrest and was unsure he would be able to retain an attorney.
After announcing a bond that included numerous restrictions, Van Hook found Hart indigent and assigned the public defender’s office to the case.
Hart was arrested after investigators found more to the story he told than met the eye, according to a UCSO press release. He was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
