UCAPS board resigns, wreck turns fatal and Strong-Huttig rescinds superintendent’s contract: It’s Thursday in Union County

Big headlines in El Dorado today.

For all you animal lovers out there invested in the Union County Animal Protection Society saga, breaking news just minutes ago with the immediate resignations of the entire board, excepting one member.

Stan Simpson, Pat Rackow, Fred Rackow, Donna Bradshaw, Susan Feline, Adenia Robbins and Becky Harbour submitted their resignations, effective immediately, in a special meeting with their attorney this afternoon.

Also on the news desk, though she was airlifted alongside the passenger to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences following yesterday’s head-on collision on U.S. 167 between El Dorado and Calion, 19-year-old Hachelle Lynch, of New Orleans, La., died as a result of injuries incurred upon impact.

She was shown to not have worn a seat belt, however, it was 20-year-old Darrell Sherman, also of New Orleans, La., who was ejected from the vehicle. He remains in stable condition at UAMS.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to the Medical Center for South Arkansas, treated and released Wednesday.

The Strong-Huttig School Board held a special meeting on Monday during which it rescinded the contract of Superintendent Mary Calloway.

When asked for more information by the News-Times, Board President Cindy Smith elicited a “no comment.”
