30-year cold case ends in El Dorado man’s arrest

An approximately 30-year-old cold case was resolved today when a man who escaped from a Louisiana justice facility in the 1970s was arrested in El Dorado, where he had been living.

According to Union County Sheriff Chief Investigator Clark Burton, Melvin Murphy, 53, was arrested at 141 Sioux Nation Rd. Wednesday morning on a U.S. Marshals warrant for escape.

Murphy, who had been living under the alias Mark Davis, had been living in El Dorado during the few weeks of investigation by the marshals and sheriff’s office.

During his first appearance in Union County District Court, Murphy was given no bond and instead signed an extradition waiver to Louisiana where he will face the charge.
