A judge in Pulaski County wrapped up a statewide controversy today when she ruled that former Harlem Globetrotter and former state legislator Fred Smith will not appear on the ballot for the May primary.
Smith, who filed for state Senate on March 1, was ineligible at the time he filed due to a past criminal record which he did not seek removal from until March 15, the judge said, according to Arkansas News.
According to the secretary of state’s office, the ballots have already been printed. However, the judge ordered that any votes cast for Smith in the May 22 primary not be counted.
