N-T study finds no felons hunting with firearms

Union County’s felons are apparently following the rules that restrict them from utilizing a firearm while hunting — though not a lot can be said for those arrested using firearms in other capacities.

According to data requested by the News-Times for felony convictions dating back to 1980, hunting licenses purchased in 2011 and game tags turned in for the same time period, not one Union County felon was found to have purchased a hunting license or turned in any game, whether hunted with a muzzle loader, modern gun, archery or trap.

The News-Times study comprised several weeks of analysis and mirrored that completed by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in 2007-2008 which discovered 18 convicted Union County felons, among 850 statewide, who admitted to using firearms while hunting.
