Apparently more shenanigans went down Monday night in Huttig where during a city council meeting, an alderman quit and walked out, according to an email from a citizen who attended.
Huttig Clerk Becky Mathews confirmed this afternoon that Alderman George Spells quit the council and walked out during an hour and a half executive session following a 10-minute meeting. The session was entered to discuss personnel matters, Mathews said.
However, Mathews said she won’t release any more information to the News-Times until she can check with Mayor Tony Cole, who is still facing down a $208,000 lawsuit from former Police Chief Byron Sartor.
“I was told by my mayor I have to have approval from him before I release anything,” Mathews said.
Spells was unavailable for comment.
