A hair north of Union County, Fordyce is cleaning up today after an EF2 category tornado tore through last night, destroying seven to eight homes and damaging another 40, according to Arkansas Online.
Only one injury had been reported as of noon today and it’s been characterized as very minor.
Most poignant among the victims’ stories is the account of one woman who without her husband’s urging would have stayed home rather than try to flee the 135 mph winds.
“I would have stayed home if it hadn’t been for my husband,” she said, taking a break from salvaging possessions from the wreckage. “I thought this trailer’s been here since a hundred years ago, it’s not going anywhere. Now there’s a big tree on my bed.”
