An additional $3 million in funding for the cash-strapped Forestry Commission will do nothing to halt the termination of 36 employees later this month, Gov. Mike Beebe’s office said today.
The funding will only bridge this fiscal year’s financial gap and maintain jobs for all but the nearly 40 employees who were told they’d be out of a job by Jan. 13, according to Arkansas News.
Beebe maintains that he didn’t know about the agency’s improper use of the federal dollars and the $4 million shortfall until late in 2011.
