Plans for a statewide health insurance exchange were dumped today after the Arkansas insurance commissioner, facing opposition from Republicans in the Legislature, said the option is no longer viable.
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the state will switch to federal health insurance control, despite the commissioner’s worry that local regulation is best.
The federal law allows states the option of setting up their own exchange in lieu of the federal government generating one. Arkansas will soon revert to the latter.
