State Rep. Justin Harris was “really thrown back, disappointed,” when his religious preschool was targeted for using state money to fund Christian teachings, according to the Associated Press.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a D.C.-based group, contends that Growing God’s Kingdom, a preschool managed by Harris and his wife, has received more than $1 million in state and federal funds despite its religious roots.
The school’s curriculum evolves around Christian lessons and mandates that teachers “share the love of Jesus with these children,” according to paperwork released under a Freedom of Information Act inquiry.
Alliance Defense Fund, a Scottsdale, Ariz., Christian advocacy group, will legally represent Growing God’s Kingdom if counsel is needed, Harris said.
