The first case of listeriosis, reportedly linked to a contaminated cantaloupe, was confirmed in Arkansas yesterday by the state health department.
Officials haven’t released the location of the sick man or when the disease was discovered, but are warning Arkansans to wrap their cantaloupes in plastic bags and then dump them in the trash, according to Arkansas News.
The Arkansas confirmation is related to an 18-state outbreak that has been traced back to Rocky Ford cantaloupes from Jensen Farms, Colo. As of Monday, 72 people have become sick, 13 have died.
The CDC recommends that when you bring a cantelope home, wash it with a detergent (Dawn) before you cut it. Check the CDC website. No need to panic.
