Amid the flurry of Republicans who’ve openly begun their vie for U.S. Rep. Mike Ross’ open seat, the first Democrat announced yesterday that he would also run for the slot in 2012.
State Rep. Gene Jeffress said he’s seek the Democratic nomination just hours after Beth Anne Rankin made the announcement that she would attempt again in the race she lost last year to the incumbent Ross, according to The Associated Press.
Despite the Democratic Party’s pounding in Arkansas last year, Jeffress believes as a conservative left-winger he still has a shot during next year’s election cycle.
Jeffress hasn’t actually launched his campaign yet, nor has he started fundraising. When he announces, he will join Rankin, Tom Cotton and Marcus Richmond in the race for the congressional seat.
