Beth Anne Rankin, who led an unsuccessful run for the Fourth District congressional seat last year against incumbent Rep. Mike Ross, will take another bite at the apple in 2012.
The official announcement will be made Monday during tours of Texarkana, Hot Springs and Magnolia, Rankin told the Banner-News today. She’ll end the day in El Dorado where she will officially announce her intention to run for the soon-to-be-open seat at 5:30 p.m. at the Union County Courthouse.
Despite a 17 percent lead districtwide, Ross actually trailed behind Rankin in Union County where she led by 4 percent in the 2010 season. After a 2010 election season that smashed Democratic morale not only in Arkansas, but nationally, Rankin — a card-carrying Republican — could prove to be a force in the 2012 race.
