Permits issued for new oil wells in Union County

The Oil and Gas Commission issued four permits to drill six wells in South Arkansas, including four in the Smackover Field.

The list of operators includes: James Langley Operating Co. of Smackover, R McNeely Oil Company, Quanico Oil & Gas of El Dorado, and Betsy Production Company of Magnolia.

Sewell Drilling LLC will be the contractor for all six new wells, according to The Magnolia Reporter.

    Are they hoping to get lucky, or do they know exactly how much is there (and just needed the price to go up to make it worth while)?

    From what Rob Reynolds spoke about at the Civitan Club meeting today it sounds like there is a legitimate oil interest in the lower Smackover area. Tomorrow’s News-Times will have more details.
