Travel policies vary widely in state departments

Jason Tolbert provides a look at the lax methods of logging state vehicle use which should have taxpayers cringing at the thought of how their dollars are being spent.

There’s a wide variance in how each department logs mileage, gas purchases and who is authorized to use a vehicle, but the clear message is that there is no consistent system in Little Rock for keeping tabs on state vehicle use.

One department uses a white board, another reserves vehicles through an email system and yet another keeps mental track of the three vehicles it’s been assigned.
