In a release from County Health Rankings today, Union County was listed as the 63rd most unhealthy county out of the 75 in the state.
Factors measured included mortality, morbidity, health behaviors, social and economic factors and physical environment.
Poor rankings for the county included a mortality rate nearly as high as the combined averages for the state and nation (ranked 71), an enormous report rate for sexually transmitted diseases in comparison to the state and nation, and a low ratio of doctors to patients.
However, here’s a surprise, Union County outranked the state in high school graduation rates (85 to 74 percent) though fell short of the nation’s 92 percent.
