The Arkansas Department of Health confirmed that one person died last week from meningococcal meningitis, but ward off concern of an outbreak saying it’s believed to have been an isolated case, according to KSPR.
Those who came in contact with the victim have been preventatively treated, ADH said. Citing Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) laws, ADH could only say that the victim was a Fort Smith man but wouldn’t say where the death occurred.
