Self-proclaimed prophet: Sinful repeal garners hateful punishment

Arkansas is merely repeating what it sowed, according to a spokesperson for People for the American Way, who stipulates that the deaths of thousands of birds is a God-given punishment for the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Believe me, I wish I was kidding.

Cindy Jacobs, who purports herself to be a prophet, claims because that the original proposal was made by Bill Clinton, and the birds first fell on Beebe, Ark. (coincidentally, she says, the name of our governor), that there must be a connection between our sinful repeal of DADT and the dead birds.

“As so, could there be a connection between this passage [Hosea 4] and now that we’ve had the repeal of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell where people now legally in the United States have broken restraints with the Scripture because the Scripture says in Romans 1 that homosexuality is not allowed,” she said.

Unfortunately most people don’t know that the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010″ didn’t actually repeal anything. The media has done a very poor job of reporting the facts of that bill. On the plus side, I guess that puts a few holes in this self-proclaimed prophet’s claims.

If you look at the text of the bill, the blue section at the top has two links for the most commented paragraphs. The first one for paragraph 35 has comments that help explain why it didn’t actually repeal DADT. H.R. 2965

Wow James, that’s especially eye-opening. And for all the other readers and political observers out there, enjoy, here’s the text from the bill stating essentially that DADT won’t actually repeal anything until 60 days after research into a litany of items including whether the repeal would be consistent “with the standards of military readiness, military effectiveness, unit cohesion, and recruiting and retention of the Armed Forces,” is complete.

Section 1, Subsection C: “No Immediate Effect on Current Policy- Section 654 of title 10, United States Code, shall remain in effect until such time that all of the requirements and certifications required by subsection (b) are met. If these requirements and certifications are not met, section 654 of title 10, United States Code, shall remain in effect.”
