According to a report on Fox News.com today:
“A top Department of Homeland Security official reportedly said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.
“John Morton, assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, made the comment during a meeting on Wednesday with the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune, the newspaper reports.
“‘I don’t think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution,’ Morton told the newspaper.
“The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach, he said, and not a patchwork of state laws.”
Perhaps the best approach would be a federal solution IF the feds would get off their rumps and actually enforce border security. I can’t believe President Obama has taken such a laissez-faire view on immigration.
I’ve heard several comments from folks who claim that Arizona is treating immigrants like criminals. Well, those who enter illegally ARE criminals, and they should either try to be legalized or leave.
The choice is simple.

The other thing is that the law doesn’t specify Mexicans. Anyone in the USA ILLEGALLY is in violation of Federal law. Why wouldn’t the Federal Government enforce Federal law?
This is the craziest thing EVER.
November is wake up time in Washington.

I understand the argument everyone is making and it is a legitimate one. All I ask is that someone answer a few simple questions. This is The United States of America. People can move about freely and are not required to carry “identity papers” unless something has changed. Has something changed? When did it change? When did an individual in this country become guilty until proven innocent? And, last but certainly not least, how does an armed agent of the state look at an individual and make the determination this individual may be in this country illegally and should prove they are not?
Thomas Jefferson said, “It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own.”
Rodney – When you get pulled over by the cops for speeding or whatever, what is the first thing they ask for – your drivers license (or the equivalent to identity papers)!! So, to answer your question, nothing has changed! If you had read the law you would know that the police cannot just stop someone for no reason and ask for their “papers.” In fact, the Arizona law has a higher standard than does the Federal law!!
