Former Union Co. Sheriff A. Pieroni dies
The cause of death is unknown at this time. Pieroni served as sheriff for 14 years, retiring in 1992 at the age of 60. Look for more in Friday’s News-Times.
**UPDATE** I’m told that Pieroni died after a “lengthy illness.”

With all due respect, in the obit, it mentioned “he grew the best vegetables in Union County.”
Granted, I never tasted any of the vegetables he grew (that I’m aware of)… But, is this saying that I can pretty much make any claim I’d like in print … if my family is willing to pay for it?
For example, “Joe married the most beautiful girl to ever grace the sidewalks of Smackover, Arkansas” … or “Bill was the best banjo player ever from Lisbon” … ?
Just wondering.
I’m told it was a paid obit, so yes you can. Think of all the ones that say “she was a fine Christian woman.” That could also be disputed.
Get over it guys, it’s an obit – does it really matter? Shame on you.
