MusicFest less exciting this year

I walked around for three hours tonight at MusicFest, and I must say, in the three years I have attended, this year seemed to lag behind a bit.

I stood on a sparsely populated Elm Street when John Anderson took the stage, and most everyone seemed stoic and lacking energy. When Shooter Jennings played, I was able to walk to the edge of the stage without any trouble.

That wasn’t possible during Joan Jett last year and Charlie Daniels the year before.

I talked with a co-worker tonight who speculated that the economy may have something to do with it. Or is it perhaps that the headliners this year were not great crowd pleasers?

Everyone I saw put on a great show, though.

On another note, intoxicated people were everywhere, which is no surprise. One poor woman was being dragged by two friends down Main Street. Half passed out, her head kept bobbing up and down, and her friends were laughing. People stared. It was a sad scene.

At least I didn’t see anyone urinating on the sidewalk this year.

I did see underage drinking — clear and visible on Main Street.

Overall, I don’t think this year’s MusicFest will go down as the best ever. I just didn’t feel it. Did you?

This will probably be my last musicfest, unless there happens to be a music act that I absolutely must catch. While I don’t mind the occasional beer or two, the sheer number of folks that were stumbling around with a complete lack of sense was unnerving. There were even a few local VIP’s that appeared to be having a very difficult time standing still, much less walking a straight line.

I was unimpressed with the things for kids to do on Saturday. Saturday night the majority of people there seemed to be Tweens and teenagers.

It wasn’t my kind of music, but Shooter Jennings and John Anderson put on great shows. I wonder, though, how come every time there is a beer tent n El Dorado people feel the need to get way too drunk? There’s nothing wrong with having a few beers, but a lot of what I saw was embarassing. Another thing that disturbed me was the amount of young teens out in the open smoking cigarettes.

People drink like they do hear because they were never learned how to socially drink. When they were first drinking it was so against the rules that they would drink a lot quickly.

If you don’t want your kids to grow up and be drunk out at Musicfest 2015 let them have a glass of wine with dinner at least on special occasions and the world is not going to stop if you have a beer with your 16 year old son when you are working on some weekend project together.

Remove the mystic that it being a forbidden pleasure creates.
