Strange tale from EPD log

On Aug. 29, an El Dorado woman (Regina) told police a bizarre story. Real names are not being used because the report was for information purposes only and no crimes were committed. I have assigned a fictitious first name to the woman who filed the report in an effort to avoid confusion.

Regina told the EPD that a female appeared at her front door just after noon on Aug. 29 and asked if she knew a man who shared her last name. Regina said that she did not know the man. Turns out, the gentleman had been cremated, and his ashes were being carried by the unknown female. The man’s name was on the box containing his remains.

The female asked Regina if she would take the ashes, since she shared the cremated man’s last name, and Regina said she would. Regina then called several friends and told them about the incident, and they advised her to call police.

The EPD contacted the funeral home listed on the box and is attempting to locate the deceased man’s family.

There is no mention of how the unknown woman gained possession of the remains.
