Wild young Brits tear through Europe

This is a classic story of youthful debauchery on a grand scale. British youths are vomiting, partying and carousing their way through Europe’s most decadent areas in search of happy holidays (that’s vacations to you Yankee folks).

And now the government of Greece is pleading with officials in Britain to reign in the partying kiddies.

DNC delivers glitz, but is there substance?

Michelle Obama, wife of Democrat and presidential hopeful Barack Obama, gave a stirring speech last night about the man she calls her husband. She told of his reaction while driving his newborn daughters home from the hospital a decade ago, and related stories about his character.

We all know that he’s a good, loving father. We need more.

I like Barack Obama well enough. And his wife is very articulate and beautiful — sort of like a more outspoken version of Jackie Kennedy.

But I and others are wondering if Obama can deliver something more than style points at this convention. His speech Thursday needs to say more than the now-infamous buzzwords “hope” and “change.”

I truly feel that he is the best man for the job, but I think we need to see more from him than carefully crafted speeches and long-thought-out phrases.

When I saw Obama two years ago in Little Rock, his speech was very different than those he gives today. Then, he spoke from the gut. Now, speech writers seem to guide the tenor of his words. He should break away from this robot mentality that comes over candidates once they become part of a party machine.

I think he will Thursday. I think he will in the White House. At least I hope he will.
