Between Editions

The weekend brought not only two major news events but also flooding in parts of South Arkansas. Unfortunately, my area of Ouachita County was one of the flood zones. Nothing was damaged, thankfully, but the site of raging water gushing through your yard — inches away from the front door — can be unnerving.

After that, I tried to cloister myself from the main news events this weekend: The Olympic Games closing ceremony in Beijing and Obama’s vice presidential pick. I’m in the news cycle all week, so on weekends, it’s tough to hone in.

Joe Biden? Eh. I don’t see how it matters one way or another who Obama picked.

The talking heads on cable news never shut up about it. I didn’t watch. I only caught a fleeting glimpse as I thumbed through the channels.

As for the Olympics, well, I’m sure they were cool. Just had better things to do.

Maybe today will bring something fun. We’ll see.
