The city can force people off their land and out of their businesses for an unneeded convention center but the county can't deal with a couple of land owners for a multimillion dollar walmart dist. center.
way to drop the ball

If you look at a map of Walmart DC's, there is a "hole" in the North Louisiana / South Arkansas area centered right on top of El Dorado. Maybe Walmart can get by with it's current DC coverage areas, but I would think, with the cost of fuel these days, it might not be a bad idea for Walmart to still pursue a DC here anyway.

Brian, it's my understanding from Don Wales that Wal-Mart wanted to act immediately, in that they sought a site where they could plug and play, so to speak.

Also, it was sort of a sticky situation to acquire the 300 acres. Family trusts, cranky landowners, etc. all played a part in delaying the sale of the land.

If that were the case (Walmart in 2003), everything short of slapping people's mamas should have been done to secure that land.
