Pilgrim’s layoff rumors continue to circulate

Someone called today and told us that several workers at Pilgrim’s Pride’s El Dorado plant are going around town saying that they have been laid off. I called the spokesman for the company this afternoon and he assured me that “we have not announced any layoffs,” and that Pilgrim’s officials are still working with the local facility to keep it in operation — at least for now.

So, taking that at face value, there have been no layoffs at the plant.

Well, for what it is worth, Pilgrim’s Pride has 3 job openings advertised for the El Dorado region on a nationally known job search website. Maybe there will be layoffs, but I find it hard to believe that they would be trying to hire 3 new individuals if the plant was going to be closing soon.
